Hello. Welcome to Pebble FeetMy name is Georgina Dunbar and I am a professional practitioner of Reflexology and Indian Head Massage. I am based in Alton, but can also travel to the surrounding Hamsphire area.
ReflexologyReflexology is a complimentary therapy which may bring about relaxation and may improve an individual’s well being. It is a therapy which may work on its own or complement conventional medicine. However it DOES NOT replace conventional medicine.
History of reflexologyReflexology dates back to Ancient Egypt, with modern approaches introduced in the early 1900’s. In 1906 Sir Charles Sherrington, (UK) showed how the brain, spinal cord and reflex pathways control activities in our bodies and that nerves co-ordinate body functions. In 1917, Dr. William Fitzgerald published a book on zone therapy which divided the body up into 10 vertical zones, 5 on each side. He discovered that pressure applied to a part of the body, could have a profound effect on another.
In the 1930’s Eunice Ingham conducted further research and observed through her own practice that any tension or energy blockages in the feet were in fact mirrored in the corresponding parts of the body. She went onto develop foot maps of the body on the feet. These are what reflexologists are trained by in modern day.
How it worksThe human body consists of cells, glands, nerves and organs which make up the various systems. When we are working well, we are in a state of homeostasis or balance. If we are not, stimulating the reflexes in the feet or hands may have a positive response on the disordered functioning of the body’s systems, restoring this balance.
Who it could help?Reflexology may help anyone who suffers from imbalance in any of the body’s systems. Typically, those who have; breathing disorders, sinus disorders, stress and anxiety, back pain, hormone related problems, low moods or a problem maintaining energy levels. These are only a few examples.
Indian Head MassageAn Indian head massage may improve physical and emotional well being. It helps relaxation and improves blood flow to the head, neck and shoulders. Headaches due to tension may also be alleviated through massage and ‘knots’ in the shoulder and neck area may be broken down. Head massage is also thought to trigger the release of chemicals in the brain called endorphins, creating a feeling of contentment and happiness.
History of Indian head massagePractised in India for over 5000 years, it is based on ancient Ayurvedic healing techniques which restore physical and mental well being, creating harmony in the mind, body and spirit.
Who can it help?Anyone who wishes to relax, has headaches, sinus problems, neck stiffness.
